Makeshift memorials adorn New York City's parks and streets. Union Square Park, near 14th Street, is one of the larger ones.

New York brought many of its flags back to full-staff yesterday following a memorial service held at Yankee Stadium for those killed during the terrorit attacks Sept. 11. Nearly two weeks after the events that no American ever thought could be possible, we still remember those who have died and those who are missing.

People from all over the world came to leave messages of support and encouragement. Everyone brought with them a heavy heart.

Hundreds have come to light candles; leave poems, prayers, sympathy cards and flowers; post pictures of the missing; speak to one another about peace.

Artists build momuments of their own in the form of the World Trade Center. One was made with silver spray-painted miniature license plates that adorn the first names of many who have died.
