Dear Kate,

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a list person, you know, the kind of person who has a list for everything from the contents of her suitcase to her food shopping list, which is alphabetized and grouped by department or aisle number.

But for several weeks now, or more like several months, I've kept a list of things that always make me happy. I'm not talking about the generic sunny day. We all like it when the weather is pleasant, but many a day goes by where we can be perfectly miserable while the sun is shining. I wanted to come up with a list of things that, regardless of all other circumstances, brought a smile to my face or always made me laugh.

Similarly, I kept a list of things that always ticked me off or made me smirk.

Neither list is very long. But again, they aren't just lists of things I like and things I hate. So, here they are:

Silly Things That Make Me Smile

The Survivor theme song (even though I never watched any of the third season)
Swinging on swings (talk about a rush of the giggles)
When green peppers are added to a greek salad (silly, right?)
Butterflies anywhere
Carmel (instead of chocolate any day)
Really good hair days (those blue-moon occasions)
Jelly beans
Putting on thick cushiony socks in winter
Joe's aftershave
Good hazelnut coffee (if you drink coffee, sometimes even hazelnut can be not so good)
Lafsnort.wav
Watching Joe watching The Simpson's (He finds the show hysterical. I find it hysterical that he finds it so hysterical.)
Finding something I've wanted on clearance (not just on sale)
Summer squash with black pepper
Helium balloon bouquets (mostly the latex ones, not the metallic variety)
A child's big smile or giggle
Cats or kittens sleeping in cute positions or funny places (Daisy is good at this)

Things That Bug Me

A napkin on top of store-bought cup of coffee (Why do clerks do that? The coffee seeps through that hole at the top of the cup and soaks the napkin, making the napkin completely unusable.)
Road rage (Idiot drivers)
Roaches
Migraine headaches (Ugh!)
Cancer
Dogs that pee in the house
Pop-ups ads on Internet sites
When people never--ever take the time to write you back--EVER
When computers freeze up
Chatty people on early morning commuter trains
People who piss on other people's achievements or who never have anything nice to say
